The following pictures show examples of work that is not to the Firestone or Brett standards of installation.

Soverign Paving, this is a difficult product to lay so should only be undertaken by experienced tradesmen. The photograph shows how it has been laid by tradesmen who are not experienced. The installation has not been laid straight or even, showing the difference between the quality of work. This work shows little preparation, bedded on wet concrete and allowed for the moving of previous block paving.

Cobble paving attached to a mat, these have been laid on an uneven surface before the base materials have been compacted. Therefore it has provided an uneven and potentially dangerous finish.

Natural stone paving (sandstone/ limestone), retailing between £16 and £30 per square metre. Laid correctly it should give the look of a tile, being flat and smooth almost like an interior floor. The contractors in this photo have laid the stone upside down.

Tarmac should be layed at no less than 60 mm for a footpath, this picture shows that the excavation has taken place but the contractors have not left sufficient depth for the tarmac to be laid. Sufficient depth should be left for two layers of tarmac, a 20 mm base coat compacted to a depth of 50 mm and a wearing coarse compacted to a depth of 30 mm.
